Message from Bishop Barker

My Dear DioNeb Friends and Family –

Earlier today, the House of Bishops elected The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe to serve as the 28th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, bringing to a close the discernment journey that we’ve been on together for the past many months. While it’s hard to lose an election, I have every confidence that the Holy Spirit led the way as the bishops of the church did their work, and I look forward to serving with and supporting our new PB in the years to come!

I am so grateful to all of you for the trust and support you’ve offered me during this time of discernment. I’ve been encouraged, prayed, and cared for as in no other time of my life.

I will return to Nebraska with a full and thankful heart, both for the honor of having contributed to the process of selecting our new Presiding Bishop and for the grace of coming home to a community that I cherish and a ministry that I love. I’m likewise looking forward to serving with and supporting all of you as we continue to make our way into becoming the Church that Christ calls us to be.

Thank you again for your confidence in me and for your thoughtful encouragement over these past months. I look forward to seeing you soon in DioNeb!

Faithfully Yours in Christ –

+ Bishop Barker

ERIN’S EPISTLETTES

  • This Fall, several Saint Francis parishioners will participate in Project Resource.
    • From their website: "Giving of oneself financially unlocks a part of our hearts where God can do incredible work, both in us and through us. As part of our baptismal covenant, we believe we are called to reconcile ourselves to one another and to God. Fundraising is not a means to an end. Rather, fundraising as ministry is a radical act of reconciliation; a process that can both draw the giver closer to God and repair an unjust world. Project Resource provides the tools to inspire radical generosity and engage faith communities in this life-changing work."
    • The program is hosted by the (Episcopal) College for Bishops.
    • Classes gather on-line for an hour and a half every Sunday over five weeks.
    • Saint Francis will cover registration costs.
    • Let me know if you think you might be called to this important ministry!
    • For more information, please visit their website at https://project-resource.org/.

In honor of his mother Tosh, Regan Nanbara is hosting a Japanese Drumming group in Scottsbluff.
Takumi Kato, who travels around the country with his three young sons, has a goal of giving a thousand performances
in five years. He's well on the way to that goal and plans to visit all 50 states.
This would be the first time for him to perform in Nebraska.

He'll perform at Saint Francis, in the Parish Hall, at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.
This performance is free and open to the public.

And if you want, you might pull a more information and photos from Takumi's website: https://www.nukumorinomori.com/en/photo/

ERIN’S EPISTLETTES
  • Please join me in offering a warm welcome to the newly confirmed and received! Mike Schingle and Jonathan Morgan were received & Tin Pham was confirmed. Congratulations, all, and welcome!
  • There's been some confusion regarding which liturgical elements we'll use at the early service. I'd like to offer some clarification:
    • We'll use the Rite I Eucharist.
    • Our primary worship aid will be the prayer book. A bulletin will be provided as a supplement to the prayer book. This will include the collect, readings (except the Psalm, as these are printed in the prayer book), prayer requests, the week's worship leadership schedule and parish announcements. The bulletin will be available in both standard font and large print.
    • At this time, we'll use the Prayers of the People printed in the Rite I Eucharist (rather than those printed in the late service bulletin).
    • The above will be in effect for the balance of our two-service worship pilot.
    • Please let me know if you need further clarification.
  • I have a few reminders and clarifications for those serving in worship leadership positions:
    • With the exception of illness, please update MSP or contact Ann in the front office (either phone or email) to communicate changes to your schedule and availability. (Please continue to contact me directly in the case of illness or other emergency.)
    • Please be in the building at least 15 minutes before the service start time. (Ushers, please be in the building 20 minutes beforehand.)
    • I'm aware your lives are very busy and there are many nonprofits with whom you could volunteer. Thank you for choosing to share your time and talents with the Saint Francis community!
