August 7, 2025 A Note from the Rector: Accessing Pastoral Care I'm available to provide pastoral care 24/7. If you or a family member are admitted to the hospital, whether planned or unplanned, please call (rather than text) me on my cell. If you or a family member are admitted through the emergency room, please call (rather than text) my cell as soon as you can, even if it's the middle of the night. We've confirmed with Regional West that they will not call me to inform me of your hospitalization. Unless you or a family member call, I won't know of your hospitalization and won't have the opportunity to visit you. With rare exception, if you're hospitalized locally, I'll visit the same day I receive communication that you're in the hospital. If you have surgery at a hospital out of town, I would like the opportunity to pray with you beforehand. (If you want, this can include a visit at your home.) If you don't have my cell number, please ask me or check your most recent directory (published earlier this year). If you still need a copy of that directory, please let the front office know. ~Thanks, Rev. Erin+ _______________________________________________________________ A Message from Mary Greetings! I hope your summer is going well and that you have been able to enjoy the warm weather. In response to feedback from several Parishioners during our Spring Giving Campaign, we completed a cost-benefit analysis related to changes in our weekly worship bulletin. We specifically looked at the costs for printing the bulletin in the current format versus the costs that would be associated with a “skinny” version of the bulletin. Here are the results of that analysis.
Taking all of this into account, your Vestry determined that we should continue with our current bulletin format. If you would like to underwrite one or more weeks of printing the bulletin, you can do so by writing “Weekly Bulletin” in the memo line on your check. Erin's Camp Photos ~ July 24, 2025 Costumed Scavenger Hunt Our first night at Calvin Crest, we learned the lay of the land through a scavenger hunt! Each clue directed us to a gift bag; each gift bag had part of a progressively sillier costume. Important gathering areas included the outdoor worship area (very pretty, but also buggy), the gaga ball pit, hammocks, upper area lodge (nightly high school social), basketball court, pool and -- my personal favorite -- the craft cabin. Talent Show On Thursday evening, campers delighted their peers and staff with varied and wonderful talents. Pictured here are two wonderful young ladies who were in my cabin last year, Nat and Raynique. Erin's Epistlettes ~ July 17, 2025 I'm serving as a counselor at DioNeb's Camp Canterbury this week. I anticipate my first day back in the office will be Tuesday, July 22. I'll have very little time to access email during camp. If there's a pastoral or building emergency, please call my cell and I'll respond as soon as I can. Youth Fellowship Adult Leaders In a few weeks, I'll begin working with the leadership (both lay and ordained) at First Presbyterian church to plan our upcoming program year for Youth Fellowship. We saw wonderful growth last school year with seven Episcopal youth participating. (One of these youth attends church at Holy Apostles; the other six are connected here.) If you're interested in serving as a youth group leader, let me know so we can include you in these discussions. You needn't be present every Sunday evening and you won't be required to lead any activities (unless, of course, you want to!). Simply being a warm and open presence helps to build the unique community so precious to the formation of our teens and preteens. ____________________________________________________________ Those who serve, Sunday, July 20, 9am Musician Nancy Meier Media Team Stephanie Schingle Ushers Greg and Collette Suhr Lector/Intercessor Jack Webb Altar Guild Judi Widmaier, Connie Schingle, Jeane Anderson Coffee Hosts Patty Clown Horse, Sarah Schaaf Flowers: Bill Mann In memory of his mother, Mary Upcoming Events at St. Francis: Wednesday 07/23 Evening Prayer on Zoom 6p Thursday 07/24 Men's Bible Study 8a Library Saturday 07/26, Christmas in July Bazaar 8a-2p Sunday Eucharists 07/27 St Francis 9a Good Shepherd, Harrisburg 11:30a St. Hilda's, Kimball 2:30p Tuesday 07/29 Vestry 6p _______________________________________________________________ From the Office—Ann’s Announcements Birthdays: Velysia Gomez July 21 Gary Larson July 22 Ashton Tuzson July 22 Anniversaries: John & Jamie Selzer July 20 Kevin & Monica Lehr July 20 Our ECW “Christmas in July Bazaar” is coming up on Saturday, July 26th from 8:00am- 2: 00 pm in the Parish Hall. Erin's Epistlettes ~ July 10, 2025 Some Notes on Camp Canterbury I'm away at DioNeb's Camp Canterbury next week (July 13-20). Please include us in your prayers for uneventful travel and an enjoyable, safe and spirit-filled week for both campers and staff. This year's theme is Living Water. Central to our discussion and activities is the prayer of Thanksgiving Over the Water from the Baptismal rite. I've included those words below to refresh your memory and invite reflection. Our time at camp (hosted by Calvin Crest in Fremont) will include activities typical of this ministry: faith learning, prayer time with songs both silly and serious, crafts (my personal favorite), games, hanging out in the hammocks, gaga ball, pool time and the end-of-week talent show. (If you've never heard of gaga ball, I can explain -- sort of.) Community and friendship creation and building remain the hallmarks and cement on which the this unique and formative time is built. We eagerly anticipate another appearance by Moses himself, played by the ever-delightful and creative Rev. Robert Magoola of Saint Marks' on the Campus, Lincoln. Monday through Friday, I'm supervising campers and want to be fully present with them. Because of this, I'll have limited access to calls and texts and no access to email. On travel days, I'll pass through remote areas of our beautiful state which have spotty cell coverage. If I don't answer my cell phone, please leave a message and I'll call back as soon as I can. I wish to thank our friend the Rev. Chris Plantz+ of Rushville for celebrating and preaching in my absence July 13 and the intrepid Monica Shambaugh for agreeing to lead morning prayer on July 20. Thanksgiving Over the Water (BCP 306-7) We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water. Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation. Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his death and resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life. We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. At the following words, the Celebrant touches the water Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue forever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.
