I want to share with you two wonderful opportunities.  Attached, you will find the Light of Hope flyer for this year. Additionally, I've included the movie flyer with showtimes for the film playing at the Midwest Theater, as well as a link to the official trailer.
Inspired by the powerful true story, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, follows Donna and Reverend Martin as they ignite a fire in the hearts of their rural church to embrace kids in the foster system that nobody else would take.
By doing the impossible–adopting 77 children–this East Texas community proved that, with real, determined love, the battle for America’s most vulnerable can be won. Duration: 2 hr 10 min.
Show times Friday 6th: 1:30 & 7:00 Saturday 7th: 1:30 & 7:00 Sunday 8th: 1:30 Members: $4 Non-Members: $8 Children 2-12: $4     Flyers in the Narthax.    Movie Trailer    https://youtu.be/-nyh9tcGFcI.

Light of Hope Event: This event promises to be a meaningful and enriching experience, and we would be thrilled to have your presence there. The flyer contains all the information you need to know.  If you would like to attend the Light of Hope dinner, feel free to contact Monica Shambaugh at [email protected] or (308) 641-5374 & she’ll make sure you have a seat.

COMMUNITY EVENT

When
September 5th
5pm – 7pm
Where
Gering Civic Center
1050 M Street, Gering

There is a public health crisis unfolding before us that most adults have no idea is happening. Children are seeing extremely violent pornography online in unprecedented numbers. By the age of 12, 1 in 3 kids have already seen hardcore pornography.

Violent pornography is the #1 sex educator of children and it’s creating increasing reports of child-on-child sexual assault, vulnerabilities around extortion, exploitation, a rise in strangulation, and a generation of kids who think sexual violence is normal.

Research bears out the correlational and causational relationship between porn use and sexual violence, especially as a child’s brain is particularly susceptible to explicit content.

This presentation is eye-opening and will infuse you with hope about how we can mitigate the harm being done to our kids online.

ERIN’S EPISTLETTES
  • There are a few youth and children's ministry-related events happening or beginning over the next few weeks.
  • Our Godly Play program resumes the Sunday after Labor Day. Co-leaders Barb Manasek and Peggy Wymore continue to integrate new curriculum purchased last year. I look forward to hearing what the children learn from material both new and old and am grateful for the team of adults whose hard work creates a safe and sacred space for our children!
  • I'm delighted to announce Saint Francis will hold a joint youth group with First Presbyterian this school year. Gatherings will be Sunday evenings. Parents and teens, look for more detailed information in the coming weeks.
  • We'll once again celebrate Gold Sunday in support of childhood cancer survivors on September 8. Plan to wear something gold that Sunday!
  • The Western Deanery will gather at Saint Francis Saturday, September 7. A presentation by those who attended General Convention begins at 10, but folks are welcome to gather as early as 9. The morning closes out with Eucharist and lunch. All Saint Francis members are invited and encouraged to attend and learn more about ministry happening in the wider church!

  • This Fall, several Saint Francis parishioners will participate in Project Resource.
    • I went through the training a few years ago. It's very well done and I commend it to your consideration.
    • From their website: "Giving of oneself financially unlocks a part of our hearts where God can do incredible work, both in us and through us. As part of our baptismal covenant, we believe we are called to reconcile ourselves to one another and to God. Fundraising is not a means to an end. Rather, fundraising as ministry is a radical act of reconciliation; a process that can both draw the giver closer to God and repair an unjust world. Project Resource provides the tools to inspire radical generosity and engage faith communities in this life-changing work."
    • The program is hosted by the (Episcopal) College for Bishops.
    • Classes are held on Zoom and gather for an hour and a half every Sunday over five weeks.
    • Saint Francis will cover registration costs.
    • If you think you might be called to this important ministry, please let me know by August 15.
    • For more information, please visit their website at https://project-resource.org/.
