Small Groups

Adult Programs

St. Francis offers a variety of opportunities for adults to join in study and fellowship.

Men's Bible Study -- This is a group open to those who are looking for some coffee and conversation loosely centered on the particular book of the bible we happen to be reading through, which more often than not leads us into issues we all face in our daily lives and relationships. Coffee is always on 8 a.m. every Friday in the parish library.

Lectionary Study and Compline -- Meets Wednesdays at 2 p.m. in the Rae Whitney library.

Women's Discipleship Group -- Meets Thursdays at 12 p.m. in the Rae Whitney library. Focus is in deeper formation around scripture and prayer. Call the Church office for more information.

Sunday Morning Coffee Hour -- No list of our adult activities would be complete without noting that coffee and treats are available every Sunday after the worship service. People say this is really the best way that the church has for folks to get to know each other. Everyone is invited and everyone is encouraged and everyone is welcome. Please join us for a cup of coffee and some conversation in the parish hall.

The Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) -- Meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. DOK was founded in 1885 with the mission of the extension of Christ's Kingdom through prayer, service and evangelism. Daughters seek to grow their relationships with God through daily prayer.  They also strive to be Christ's faithful servants by participating in worship and study and by assisting clergy in the outreach and work of the Church.

Centering Prayer -- Meets on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. in the Rae Whitney Library.  Centering Prayer is a practice that helps us live a contemplative life. This is an ancient form of Christian meditation that comes from the rule of Saint Benedict, "listen with the ear of your heart".  By practicing the art of quiet and clearing our thoughts, we become better able to listen to God. In this fast-paced world, many of us can benefit from this type of prayer. Anyone interested in participating is welcome to attend, even those with no previous experience at all.  At the beginning of each time, suggestions are given on how to quiet your mind and let go of random thoughts and feelings. The purpose of this kind of prayer is to come together and simply "rest in God".

Children's Ministry

We currently offer a Montessori-style Sunday School program we call "Godly Play" for elementary-age kids during our 9 a.m. Sunday service. Parents and children meet their teachers up in the classroom above the parish hall right before before church. At approximately 9:40 a.m., the teachers bring the kids back to the church where they join their parents for communion.

At all services, children of any age are also welcome to attend church and sit with their parents for the entire service. Noise is growth, and so parents are encouraged to relax and do their best. No one judges or glares (at least we hope they won't) because many or most of us have "been there" and "done that."

All baptized Christians, including infants and children, are welcome and encouraged to receive Communion during the service.

Youth Activites

Our Youth Group meets on Sundays with the youth at the First Presbyterian Church.

Since they are full members in the church, youth who are interested may serve in one of many capacities at the service:
  • Usher/Greeter -- usually with parents, but could be with another teen
  • Reader -- reading the lessons assigned for that day
  • Intercessor -- leading the prayers
  • Acolyte -- assisting clergy at the altar
  • Eucharistic Minister -- older teens may assist in distributing communion
All of these duties require a commitment to training, education, and attendance. Youth interested in serving in any of these should contact the office.
