Thursday Announcements for February 27th, 2020

2/27/2020

FATHER MARK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS

LENT IS HERE!

1) First, thanks to everyone who shopped, cooked, served, cleaned, or ate at     our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed! It was a super fun and super delicious meal!

2) Second, thanks to everyone who served or attended one or both of our Ash Wednesday services yesterday. I was humbled and moved to be present with such a committed and faithful group of Christians as we remembered our failings and accepted God's forgiveness. Truly the beginning of a Holy Lent.

3) We will have two Lenten Programs this year, as follows:
  • Sunday afternoons 1:00-5:00 P.M. (begins 3/1) "Walk the Labyrinth" The labyrinth will be set up in the Parish Hall for anyone who wishes to walk it. No instruction needed, simply come and walk and pray.

  • Wednesday evenings 5:30-7:00 P.M. (begins 3/4) "The Passion Play of Oberammergau” We'll start with a soup supper and then head up to the church for Stations of the cross. Sign-up in narthex for soups.

Father Mark’s Announcements

1) Jill and I send our heartfelt thanks to the entire parish for your many cards, words of encouragement and support, memorial gifts, and prayers as we have dealt with two close family deaths in a sort period.  I cannot tell you how comforting it is to know that you walk alongside us during this time.

2) Shrove Tuesday -- Next Tuesday is our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed -- 5:30-6:30 in the Parish Hall. No charge, freewill donation to help cover costs. Pancakes, garlic sausage, and eggs will be served. Come and invite your friends to this fun no-pressure church event and let them see how great St. Francis can be!

3) The following day, Wednesday Feb 26th Lent begins with Ash Wednesday. We will have two services that day -- noon and 6PM -- both with Holy Eucharist and the Imposition of Ashes. This is a moving and important day in the church year, so I hope you will make time to attend one of these services.

Father Mark's Announcements

1) Pancakes! It’s that time of year again, our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed will be Tuesday, February 25th from 5:00 - 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. Master Pancake and Sausage Chef Jon Meyer will again lead a crew of talented men to prepare this delicious feast. Come and invite your friends. There is always plenty of food. Free will donation to cover the cost of the meal.

2) Ash Wednesday services Wednesday February 26th at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm.

3) “Oberammergau.” It’s German. It’s a mouthful. It’s the site of the longest running    enactment of the Passion Play in the world. And, it’s the subject of our Lenten Adult Study this year. As in year’s past, we will begin the second Wednesday in Lent (March 4th) with a light soup supper, followed by a short video presentation and study on Oberammergau, and end with Stations of the Cross. Sign-up for soups will be in the narthex.

FATHER MARK’S ANNOUNCMENTS
1) Now, DON’T freak out! But we are trying something new with the bulletins for a while 🤣— we are using printed inserts with the day’s readings rather than printing them within the bulletin itself. This is a widely used practice in the church, and we are trying it to see if it can improve our process of creating and using Sunday worship bulletins. Take a few weeks and see what you think. We will be using this method at least through Lent.

2) So many people to thank around last week’s service for my sister, Susan. Thanks to Mo. Karen and Fr. Bob for their faithful service and friendship. Thanks to the acolytes, lectors, ushers, and all the volunteers to assisted with the service. Thanks to our musicians Barb, Alyssa, and Scott, who provided such moving music. Thanks to our Altar Guild for all their work to make things beautiful, and to our ECW teams who provided such a terrific reception. And our entire family sends our deepest thanks to everyone in this congregation who has given us such loving support during this difficult time. I am often on the other side of this kind of event, but as the one grieving, I cannot tell you how much it meant to have you walking alongside us holding us up. It meant so much to me and to all of us. Thank you.

3) This Saturday the Deanery meets at Holy Apostles in Mitchell, NE from 10am to 1pm. The guest presenter will be Ms. Faith Mills, Executive Director for the Panhandle Partnership--which helps distribute  vital information throughout Western Nebraska that aims to help vulnerable adults and children who are at risk. Lunch will be served and a goodwill donation of $5 is suggested.
